Dr James L. Cairns Awarded the Lockheed Award for Excellence in Ocean Science and Engineering

Dr James L. Cairns, founder of both Challenger Marine and Ocean Design (ODI) has been awarded the Lockheed Award for Excellence in Ocean Science and Engineering for numerous contributions to ocean technology by the Marine Technology Society (MTS).
MTS is an international organisation with a mission statement to disseminate marine science and technical knowledge; promote and support education for marine scientists, engineers and technicians; advance the development of tools and procedures required to explore, study and further the responsible and sustainable use of the oceans; and provide services that create a broader understanding of the relevance of the marine sciences to other technologies, arts and human affairs. Each year, MTS recognises the world leaders in oceanography at their annual conference, MTS/IEEE OCEANS. This year an award was presented to Dr Cairns during Oceans 2005, in Washington, D.C., which was held from 19 to 23 September.
