EADS & SODENA to Supply New Electronic Chart System for French Navy

Two member companies of ATECMAR , EADS Defence and Security Systems SA and SODENA (well known in the field of electronic chart systems) have just been awarded the contract for the supply and implementation of the SENIN system on board 117 ships and submarines of the French Navy (SENIN is a French acronym for Navigation Operating and Information System). Thanks to the system, the ship is automatically positioned on an electronic chart on a real time basis with the capability to superimpose the radar picture on the chart (www.sodena.net). SENIN is compliant with the ECDIS norms (Electronic Chart Display and Information System ) required by IMO (International Maritime Organisation) and IHO (International Hydrographic Organisation).
The implementation period should last about 2 years up to June 2006, starting after a one-year-test-and-validation time.
The delivery of two simulators is also included in the contract. The digital charts will be supplied by the SHOM (Navy’s Hydrographic and Oceanographical Department).
