EdgeTech 4600 Reviewed at Seatronics Tech Day
The EdgeTech 4600 combined bathymetry and side-scan sonar system was met with rave reviews recently at a large underwater technology demonstration and training event hosted by Seatronics in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 December 2013. Over 70 attendees of this Seatronics Tech Day came aboard to witness the EdgeTech 4600 perform shallow-water survey operations in Khor Al-Raha Harbour.
With depths as shallow as 1 metre, the EdgeTech 4600’s 200° swath coverage was able to capture high resolution swath bathymetry and side scan imagery which revealed heavy dredge scarring along the channel bottom (see image). The simultaneous acquisition of side scan imagery and bathymetric point data tremendously reduces acquisition time. In addition, the co-registered bathymetry and side scan data can be geo-referenced with much higher precision and without the processing burden associated with combining the data sets when acquired independently.
