EUROCEANIQUE to Supply Electro Mechanical Cables for the ANTARES Project

EUROCEANIQUE, the French Branch of the MACARTNEY Group, announces that they have been awarded a contract from the French CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) for the supply of the Electro Mechanical Cables for the ANTARES project. These cables will be used to connect all storeys of the lines supporting the photomultiplier sensors in the Neutrino Telescope installed in the Mediterranean Sea at about 40 km off Toulon (France) in a water depth of about 2500 m.
The detector consists of an array of approximately 1000 photomultiplier tubes in 12 vertical strings, spread over an area of about 0.1 km2 and with an active height of about 0.3 km. The figure below shows a schematic view of part of the detector array indicating the principal components of the detector.
The Electro Mechanical Cables will be assembled by MACARTNEY A/S in Esbjerg (DK). The cable system comprises various components, namely a Kevlar armoured Electro-Optical Cable (Lapp- Muller), custom built electro-optical waterblocked penetrators developed by SEDI (France), stress terminations and non-waterblocked penetrators from Macartney.
