FIG Working Week Call for Papers

The theme of the 2008 FIG Working Week is "Integrating Generations", which addresses many of the issues facing surveyors in the next years. These include questions related to the need of getting young people interested in surveying and geomatics, how to keep the professional qualifications up to date, need for capacity building - all issues of great interest for FIG and the organisers. The Working Week will be held from 14 to 19 June 2008, in Stockholm (Sweden).

The theme can also be read more closely related to the profession itself: what is the role of modern technology in GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), geoinformatics, laser scanning etc. This fast growing technology will change the way of our profession.

All ten FIG technical commissions will attend the conference and papers are therefore requested to all the following topics:

  • Professional Standards and Practice
  • Professional Education
  • Spatial Information Management
  • Hydrography
  • Positioning and Measurement
  • Engineering Surveys
  • Cadastre and Land Management
  • Spatial Planning and Development
  • Valuation and the Management of Real Estate
  • Construction Economics and Management.

As Swedish surveyors are very successful in the fields of real estate management and valuation, FIG together with UN-Habitat will organise a special seminar in conjunction to the Working Week. This is also a showcase how Swedish surveyors have a strong interest in assisting surveyors and land related professions in developing countries.

To coincide with the FIG Working Week in Stockholm the FIG History Group will be arranging a day of papers on historical topics probably followed by a day of visits to appropriate places of interest. The exact dates are yet to be confirmed, but anyone interested in presenting papers for this should contact J. R. Smith at [email protected] as soon as possible.

FIG invites you to submit an abstract for the FIG Working Week. Abstracts should be 250 to 500 words in length describing the objectives, results, conclusions and significance of your work. Abstracts should also include the names and affiliations of all authors. Please feel free to submit an abstract on any topic related to the policy issues and specific topics of the Working Week.

All abstracts should be submitted online to FIG on the web site below.

If you have problems with the online submission, the abstract can also be submitted in electronic format to [email protected]

Latest abstract entry date is 31 January 2008 if you want to present it without peer-reviewing process. If you want your paper peer-reviewed FIG needs the full paper by the 31 January 2008.

Please include at the end of your abstract all your contact details, including name, address, phone and fax numbers and email. Please also include on your abstract whether you have a preference for a poster or an oral presentation. Receipt of your abstract will be acknowledged electronically. The number of abstracts is limited to maximum two per author.
