First INS Class C Type-Approval Certificate For Hyundai-Transas Intelligent Bridge System

The Hyundai-Transas intelligent Bridge System (HTiBS), the result of Transas and Hyundai Heavy Industries joint cooperation, has become the first system in the world to be type-approved as INS class C. Designed in full compliance with IEC61924 standard, it has recently gained the certificate from Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The first installations of Hyundai-Transas intelligent Bridge System (HTiBS) were completed last year in Ulsan, South Korea. Between September and December 2005 the Transas team installed HTiBS onboard the tankers “Pavel Chernysh”, “Captain Kostichev”, “Viktor Titov”, “Yuri Senkevich” and “Viktor Konetsky” constructed at the HHI. ”Viktor Titov“ was selected as one of three vessels in the Most Outstanding Ships of the Year 2005 category by the two leading U.S magazines Maritime Reporter and Marine Log, and the British maritime magazine, Naval Architect. These magazines select the most outstanding ship of the year in terms of technological design and performance.
In preparation for the introduction of such advanced technologies, Transas ensured that many of the systems needed for the integration shared what the company calls ‘common architectures’. The system, which is already familiar to the thousands of existing Transas end-users, is based on the company’s well proven, type-approved technology installed on thousands of vessels in today’s commercial shipping industry. Integrating its Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS), ARPA/AIS/CHART Radar and Conning Display applications on each of the five (or more) workstations completed the Transas system configuration. The use of the newest IT technologies allowed Transas to fulfill every ergonomic design and functionality requirement demanded from owners and navigators. At the same time the company had to reinforce those gains in safety and efficiency with a worldwide service network providing owners and crew with the confidence that is in keeping with the efficiency of the system itself.
