First Side Scan Sonar Training Program on DVD
Black Laser Learning has just released its second of many planned training DVDs focused on the hydrographic/oceanographic market. The Sonar Operator’s Not In the Manual Guide To Side Scan Sonar and Image Interpretation is the first comprehensive side scan sonar training program in the DVD format. The DVD also contains numerous training examples via 3D Animations which could not be utilised in a printed format.
Unlike other training programs the topics are not manufacturer specific. So the information is pertinent to the client’s requirements no matter which sonar you operate. The program starts with the most basic concepts giving the beginning student a firm foundation. However a good portion of the program focuses on more complicated concepts valuable to advanced sonar technicians.
Another problem with training is scheduling. With a DVD there is no need to send the entire field team to a location for training. The training is optimised to field crews schedule. No longer do you remove a team from active duty of a billable project to get the needed training. As the field crews rotate through the office they can get the required expertise on their schedule.
