Gardline Hydro Awarded Long Term Civil Hydrography Programme Contract
Gardline Hydro has been awarded a multi-million pound contract to undertake hydrographic surveys by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The award is Gardline's eleventh consecutive contract under the Civil Hydrography Programme since 1986 and the largest to date. Gardline Hydro will provide hydrographic survey services over a four year initial term under the CHP, to help update Admiralty Charts and other publications to ensure the safe navigation of vessels. Gardline will submit survey results to the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) who will perform validation checks prior to acceptance for updating Admiralty Charts and publications.
Work commence in June 2006 in areas located off the east coast of Scotland and northern England. In total, approximately 23,000km² of seabed will be surveyed to international (IHO S-44 Order 1) standards and Gardline anticipates completion of the 2006 season during August / September.
RV Triton, Gardline's triple hull hydrographic survey ship will perform the survey following installation of the latest generation Kongsberg EM 710 high resolution multibeam echo-sounder technology. Triton will be assisted by Gardline's latest acquisition, MV Confidante, a specialist shallow draft coastal survey vessel, equipped with a new Kongsberg EM3002 dual head multi-beam system for very high resolution shallow water operations.
