Innovative autonomous underwater ground vehicle showcased at Ocean Business

Bayonet Ocean Vehicles is set to showcase the Bayonet 250 autonomous underwater ground vehicle during its first UK demonstration at Ocean Business. The demonstration will highlight the vehicle’s autonomous capabilities, as well as the over-the-horizon command and control technology provided by fellow exhibitor Greensea Systems.

Bayonet is a US-based company that offers a range of vehicles in three sizes, including the Bayonet 150, 250 and 350, to provide increased scalability. The modular setup enables quick and easy vehicle configuration with a broad range of sensor payloads, making them a versatile tool for numerous industries, such as offshore oil and gas, marine renewables, maritime security and defence, marine salvage, science and engineering. During the demonstration, the company will exhibit the impressive features of its vehicles, including their portability, payload capability and ease of operation.

Wide range of surveying and monitoring tasks

The Bayonet crawlers are built on OPENSEA, a fully open architecture operating platform from marine robotics technology specialist Greensea. The crawlers offer the most stable and adaptable operating system in marine robotics, running on advanced software that provides improved operation, accuracy through precise navigation, vehicle autonomy, component and payload integration and over-the-horizon command and control. The extensive feature list allows them to perform a range of tasks, including surveys for nearshore, geophysical and geotechnical marine surveys, inspection and maintenance activities, environmental monitoring of the seafloor, beach zone, rivers and marshes, coastal dredging support or littoral warfare, such as mine detection and clearance.

“We are excited to be offering visitors to Ocean Business a live interactive experience with the Bayonet 250, while also showcasing Greensea’s Safe C2 over-the-horizon command and control, allowing for the vehicles to be operated from any location,” said Rob Howard, CGO Greensea.

Nick Hartman, vice president strategy and growth, and general manager of Bayonet Ocean Vehicles, expressed his amazement at seeing the technology integrate software and hardware to give operators the ability to perform job-specific tasks without any risk or harm to themselves.
