Inversion Use to Find Better Hydrocarbon Reservoirs

The next MTS Houston Section luncheon will be held on 22nd September 2011 and will feature a presentation by Tom Taylor of Fugro-Jason entitled 'Finding Better Hydrocarbon Reservoirs via a Digital Signal Processing Technology called Inversion'. Accurately predicting the capacity of a reservoir is clearly critical to the success of any offshore development.  

Predictions about the reservoir's recoverable hydrocarbons influence both how the field is developed and what technology is used. So it stands to reason that any improvements in the accuracy of these predictions are of paramount importance.

 

Inversion, a digital signal processing technology, helps increase reservoir profitability by creating highly accurate and predictive reservoir models that integrate geoscience and engineering data. Inversion integrates seismic, well log, and geological information into accurate description of rock properties and subsurface lithologies. Because this integration is quantitative, professionals can rely on the models to predict future recovery and evaluate alternative management scenarios. It can be used to quantify the size of hydrocarbon deposits.

 

Tom's presentation helps to visualise the difficulties of dealing with the different types of available subsurface data, and also provides insight into the benefits of inversion technology.
