MMT Granted Subsea Cable Route Survey Contract

Marin Mätteknik AB has recently been granted a contract to perform high-resolution bathymetrical and geophysical route surveys and seabed sampling in a special protected environmental area for Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE).
The assignment will be undertaken in August 2005 with the vessels M/V Franklin and M/V Ping.
The assignment originates from NIE’s ongoing studies into the feasibility of a subsea power cable connecting the coast of Northern Ireland and Rathlin Island. Diesel generators current provide power on Rathlin Island.
The area is environmentally sensitive. Northern Ireland Electricity, a subsidiary of the Viridian
Group PLC, is responsible for the regulated procurement, transmission, distribution and supply of
electricity to 758,000 customers (homes and businesses) in Northern Ireland.
