Nautronix Win Contract Down Under

Nautronix Ltd announced that it has signed a contract with the Australian Department of Defence (DOD) for the supply and support of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) fleet under Project SEA 1430 Phase 2A. Through this project, ECDIS will improve the efficiency of planning and performing navigation for the RAN. The ECDIS systems will also be compliant with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards.
The initial purchases and long term logistic support contract have a value of over £2.5m. The total contract value, including options for follow-on vessels and software development, could grow to over £4.2m.
Nautronix has the prime contract but teamed with Offshore Systems Ltd (OSL) of Vancouver Canada and Scientific Management Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd (SMA), of Hawthorn, Victoria, Nautronix will begin to deliver the ECDIS, complete with ECPINS - M™ software, to the RAN fleet in early 2005.
The RAN ECDIS will be enhanced with Australian specific features and will improve navigation safety and efficiency by replacing the use of paper charts with ECDIS technology on board RAN vessels. At its core, the ECDIS combines information from various ships’ sensors, satellite and other position fixing sources, and from sophisticated electronic chart databases, on to one centralised system. The ECDIS will also be used in Australian Defence Force operational headquarters to streamline operational and tactical level mission planning.
