NavCom Teams with I.T.S. Corporation to Win U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office Contract

NavCom Technology, Inc. have teamed with I.T.S. Corporation (ITS) to win the award of a multi-year contract to provide the U. S. Navy, Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) with an integrated Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and Satellite Based Augmentation (SBAS) Global Positioning System (GPS) for inshore hydrographic and offshore oceanographic vessels. The award was made under the ITS’s General Services Administration’s (GSA) ANSWER contract. The initial task order under the GSA ANSWER contract is to deliver 13 systems with options for 16 additional systems in the years following.
The basis of the solution is the StarFire Network, the first global satellite based augmentation system capable of real-time decimeter accuracy independent of the distance from a reference station. NavCom’s integrated RTK-StarFire solution is portable, accurate and provides a single shipboard unit for both inshore and offshore positioning.
In addition to the shipboard units, NavCom will supply portable RTK base stations, which can be deployed onshore from the survey vessel and left unattended for up to 30 days operating off solar cells. The result is a more efficient, accurate, cost-effective method of precise positioning for maritime hydrographic and geodetic surveys resulting in increased productivity, reduced labour and training costs as well as superior precision.
