ODI in the Spotlight
ODI has been chosen by the 2004 Offshore Technology Conference for their Spotlight on New Technology Program.
ODI developed the innovative FACT (Field Assembled Cable Termination) to extend the operational depth, and to increase the reliability of cable terminations. FACT is a modularised termination system that completely isolates the cable’s internal elements from the pressure-balanced splice chamber and ambient environment. This approach to cable termination eliminates cable-dependant design limitations and common mode/single point failures. FACT’s major design elements are based on ODI’s fully qualified and field-proven Nautilus and Fiber-lock technologies, and also draw upon ODI’s extensive experience of cable terminations.
FACT assemblies may be terminated directly to atmospheric enclosures or pressure-balanced dielectric fluid-filled splice canisters. It is ideally suited for a multitude of umbilical termination applications. FACT has been designed with modularity in mind and may be used with ancillary accessories to adapt to a wide array of interfaces. Additionally, FACT can accommodate a wide range of electrical, optical and hybrid cables, with or without gel fill.
The FACT system has been under development for over 2 years, and has been fully qualified for use at water depths up to 20,000 feet. The novel features utilised in FACT have allowed ODI to file for patent protection.
