Pipeline Removal Balikpapan Completed

Sonsub International Singapore has successfully completed a sub-sea pipeline removal project utilising its in-house-built diamond wire cutting module (DWCM) stationed at the Singapore facility. The DWCM is capable of cutting both concrete weight-coated and pipe-in-pipe steel pipelines from 8” to 36”, in both a horizontal and vertical plane. The completed project involved supply and operation of the DWCM for client Saipem in the Peciko field, Balikpapan Indonesia. The inter-field pipelines to be removed were 24” diameter plus concrete weight coat, making a total cut area of 26” diameter. A total of twenty horizontal sub-sea and surface cuts were successfully completed using the surface-control method.

First ROV Project Three Gorges Dam
Sonsub International has recently completed a construction debris removal project on the Three Gorges Dam in China. The project involved the removal and recovery of large items of debris from the nine sluice gates and floor entrances of the dam that were restricting the proper amount of water flow for efficient power generation. Divers normally carry out such tasks. However, in this instance the remote location and water depths involved precluded the use of saturation diving techniques, so that a remote solution was necessary to ensure the safe and effective removal of the debris from the gate systems without any interruption to normal dam operations.
