Saab Seaeye Wins Two Business Awards

UK-based Saab Seaeye was chosen from 185 companies in the south of the UK as the winner of two awards: Business of the Year and Excellence Through Innovation. Commenting on the Excellence Through Innovation award, the judges declared that Saab Seaeye scored very highly on the judging criteria and demonstrated excellence in its forward thinking and use of technology in business, where continued innovation benefits the customer in what is a "truly world-class business".

The Business of the Year award comes as the company recently doubled the size of its operations by expanding into a second 24,000 sq ft facility. Jon Robertson says the extra space means they can expand the engineering team, and with total recruitment already up 23%, makes the company an important employer of highly qualified engineers. The expansion will enable the company to invest in new products and offer bespoke engineering solutions.

The company has also invested in new production systems for a leaner and speedier throughput of orders and improved quality and reliability. With exports accounting for 80% of turnover and representation in 28 countries around the globe, it has also just opened an office in the USA.

The entry against which the Excellence Through Innovation Award was judged centred on Saab Seaeye's innovative design approach called, Technology Toolbox. The essence of Technology Toolbox is the distillation of core technology across its entire range of products into a common architecture that creates the lowest number of parts at the least possible cost for the highest possible performance and quality.

Commonalty of both software and hardware offers customers simpler repair and maintenance, easier upgrades, quicker delivery, more assured quality and a lower real cost. It also results in simplified and common training for operators using and maintaining the systems. System development risks are reduced and new products can be brought to market more easily and faster.

Saab Seaeye's managing director, Jon Robertson, says that the awards are great recognition for all the hard work the team puts in. Receiving the awards were Jon Robertson, together with sales director Matt Bates and operations director Mark Exeter.
