SAM Electronics has introduced SAM 4682, an IMO and DNV compliant dual-axis doppler-speed log. The device is equipped with a large high-resolution LCD display for conitnuous presentation of all relevant navigation data. The system’s transducer comprises hydroacoustic elements of 270 kHz for the dual-axis logg function and can be connected to a transceiver electronics cabinet over distances of up to 40m. Connected via a serial RS-422 datalink, a distance up to 300m is available. The associated operator unit TFT LCD display is supported by a keyboard and a rotating decoder. The display layouts can be selected by the user. The 4862 incorporates facilities for NMEA 0183 input and output, alarm relay, remote display and an optional printer. The system can determine speeds of up to 40kn with an accuracy of 0.2% of speed or 0.2kn, whichever is greater.
