SeaBat 8150 Swath Coverage Performance Upgrade709900 Italy +39 051 57 26

The RESON Group has begun a planned upgrade path on a SeaBat 8150 for China’s State Oceanic Administration (SOA) South China Sea Branch. The SeaBat 8150 had been installed on the R/V “Xiang Yang Hong 14” in 2004. Phase One of this upgrade consisted of new improved bottom detection firmware installation.
Sea trials conducted immediately after the firmware upgrade focused on swath coverage
tests, conducted at various depths as designated by the SOA. Data was collected at engines off and at three speeds (8, 10 and 12 knots) to maximum water depths of 4300 meters of water.
The result show an 46% increase in swath coverage at engines off over previous sea test trial data in 4300 meters of water. Results at three survey speeds to 12 knots also verified improvement, even with a significant level of ship noise prevalent. Over 30% increase in swath coverage performance was verified at same depth to 12 knots.
The next phases of the planned upgrade will consist of hardware modifications including the implementation of RESON Multi-ping, to further improve swath coverage at fast survey speeds and high sea states.
