Seatronics and OSIL Celebrate Multi-million Dollar Environmental Contract in Kuwait

Seatronics Limited and OSIL (Ocean Scientific International Ltd.) announced a major contract with the Environmental Public Authority (EPA) in Kuwait at the world’s largest marine science and ocean technology exhibition, Oceanology International in London.
The two companies have been chosen as principal suppliers to one of Kuwait’s most significant environmental monitoring programmes. The contract, which is valued in excess of US $3m, is being handled by Kuwait agents, Golden Shahin Environmental & Industrial Consulting Centre.
Over the years, Kuwait’s marine environment has suffered damage following a combination of the Gulf War, industrialisation and residential development. The EPA is conducting a monitoring programme to continuously assess the levels of pollutants and collect data for forecasting purposes.
The contract will involve the design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of a network of eight oceanographic data buoys. Each buoy will be supplied fully equipped with instrumentation to measure physical, biological, chemical and meteorological characteristics. Data will be collected for CTD, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, chlorophyll, current speed and direction, wave height and direction, trace metals, nutrients and a full range of meteorological measurements. This information will be logged on the buoy and then transmitted by GSM to a central database where it will be analysed. Equally, emergency warning alerts will be transmitted directly from the buoys in the event of a breach of pollutant thresholds.
The range of equipment, which includes ADCPs, Waverider Buoys, Wave Radars, Acoustic Modems, Current and Flow meters, Wave and Tide gauges, Sampling systems and Weather Stations, will expand the already extensive international pool of rental subsea equipment located at Seatronics’ facilities in Aberdeen, Houston, New Iberia, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
