Seminar on Marine Spatial Planning

The Hong Kong branch of The Nautical Institute is organising a seminar on marine spatial planning on 8 November 2013. Marine spatial planning is becoming increasingly important to the shipping sector and all associated industries dependent on marine resources.

The branch’s 2013 seminar is to engage maritime professionals and other stakeholders in Hong Kong’s waterways, such as commercial shipping companies, environmentalists, government departments, recreational users and Hong Kong citizens, to discuss the optimal and sustainable usage of Hong Kong’s marine areas and resources.

The seminar aims to start a discussion involving a broad spectrum of stakeholders which will help raise awareness of the need for marine spatial planning.

Since 1999 the Nautical Institute Hong Kong Branch has held biennial seminars for the marine industry. These seminars have proved to be of great value for those who attend, with past topics including maritime security and terrorism, cargo care, the history and future of Hong Kong as a port and recruiting seafarers in the future.
