SonTek Acoustic Flow Monitor Provides Solution for Sewage Works
SonTek’s acoustic flow monitoring instrument for shallow water, the Argonaut SW, has been installed at a Sewage Works in Jersey. Three Argonaut SWs are being used to measure the water flow in concrete lined channels (0.6m deep).
By using Doppler technology, the Argonaut SW provides major benefits over traditional methods of measurement, which are less accurate, time-consuming and more difficult to implement. It also benefits from being resistant to bio-fouling and does not need to be calibrated before use.
The system is designed to account for velocity variations within the channel to produce the most accurate flow calculation possible. It is simply mounted on the bottom of the channel and uses two angled acoustic beams to measure a profile of water velocity. A third vertical acoustic beam then measures the water level. Velocity and water level data are combined with the channel geometry to compute total flow in real time. This information is then fed back into the main system for the flow manipulation feedback loop.
