Testing of Course Equipment Results in Wreck Discoveries

Seafloor Exploration Training Courses are being organised in September 2013 by Hydrographic Geologic Informatics Survey Solutions (HGISS), Malta, for both professionals and students. When HGISS partner RPM, along with the Tunisian government and the University of Washington (USA), set out marine equipment for the courses, it found the testing successful and also discovered previously unknown wrecks of varying ages.

These artefacts include a Roman-age shipwreck and one from the World War II, both of which were found on the seabed in the Mediterranean Sea between Algeria and Libya. These types of discoveries keep seafloor exploration interesting and vital for academia, government and business, and hence also keep seafloor exploration courses in demand for both professionals and students.

There are still places available on the September 2013 course. The course will cover seafloor mapping, surveying and exploration preparing for job opportunities in hydrography, offshore site surveying or for example environmental management.
