Turbulence Investigation Commences in China
As awareness of the role that turbulence microstructure plays in the transfer of mass, momentum, salt and other water properties from large to small scales dissipation by molecular process, and with the aim of improving understanding of interactions with biology as well as its major role within the global climate change, scientists in China have become increasingly interested in measuring ocean turbulence microstructures. Prof. Tian from the Ocean University of China began his research project last year and has since finished his first measurements in the western Pacific using a free fall microstructure profiler, TurboMAP, produced by Alec electronics. Co., Ltd of Japan. This is the first time ocean scientists in China have carried out field experiments on ocean mixing processes with a microstructure profiler.
