Type Approval For AIS Base Station

Saab TransponderTech’s R40 Automatic Identification System (AIS) base station has been type approved by the German technical body, Bundesamt für Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH). The BSH type approval certifies that the R40 AIS base station complies with the latest specifications contained in the new IEC62320-1 Performance Standard.

Saab Transpondertech is the first company to receive type approval for an AIS base station under the new AIS standard. The R40 base station can be set up for either stand-alone or network operation in single or redundant configurations. Special versions for receive-only, relay, aids to navigation and DGPS correction broadcasts are also available. The R40 has established a strong record for functionality and reliability, with a mean time between failures (MTBF) of more than 100,000 hours.
