UKHO Brings Hydrography to School

The UKHO celebrated the second World Hydrography Day with a gala dinner based on the theme "Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) essential to safety of life at sea". On show at the dinner was ‘The Bigger Picture' community art project which was created by UKHO staff, sea cadets from TS Roebuck and three local schools in Taunton Ladymead, St Augustine's and Heathfield (Somerset, UK).

The gala dinner at the Mermaid Conference Centre in Blackfriars, London (UK) is the culmination of months of planning and will be hosted by the UKHO, led by Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff National Hydrographer. It will be attended by around 100 guests from across the marine industry, Royal Navy and press. Guest speaker Captain Paul Hailwood, industry ENC specialist, will deliver a lecture on Electronic Navigational Charts.

This art project incorporating 80 canvases showing a map of the world was unveiled on 11th June at the UKHO and will be displayed at various events during the year. UKHO also prepared a special graphic depicting the position on the night of the survey ships (80) of the 22 member countries taking part, on display at the dinner and afterwards in the Dalrymple Foyer.
