WMTC 2006

The World Maritime Technology Conference (WMTC 2006), organised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in partnership with twenty-four of the world’s key maritime organisations, will be held in London’s Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre from 6th to 10th March 2006. Keynote speakers of great distinction who will contribute to both plenary and streamed sessions include Commissioner Joe Borg, directorate-general for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs at the European Commission, Vice-admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher Jr., under-secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator, and Admiral Robert E. Kramek, president and chief operating officer, American Bureau of Shipping.

There will be ten streamed sessions, four well-established events in their own right. These will address marine engineering systems (10th ICMES 2006), commercial shipping, naval engineering (8th INEC 2006), offshore oil and gas, underwater vehicles (2nd ATUV) 2006, marine renewable energy (4th MAREC 2006), EEZ management, coast and ocean mapping, operational oceanography, and reefs of the world. There will be an ‘innovation hour’ each lunchtime. It is hoped that WMTC 2006 will attract up to 1,500 delegates from all over the world.
The WMTC 2006 exhibition is set to attract up to a hundred exhibiting companies, a programme of industrial visits and a full social and networking programme. These will culminate in the 103rd IMarEST Annual Dinner, at which guest speaker will the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Brewer CMG. An indication of its importance to the maritime community is that the March 2006 event has also attracted meetings of the CIMAC (the International Council on Combustion Engines) Circle, and MERSEA.
