Zooplankton Sampler for Marine Scotland Marine Laboratory

McLane Research Laboratories, USA, and Ocean Instruments, UK, have announced the delivery of a Zooplankton Sampler (ZPS) to Marine Scotland Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen, UK. The ZPS will be on display this week on stand A13 at Ocean Business 2013. Training and engineering exchange between NOCS personnel and the Marine Lab will take place this Thursday before final delivery to Aberdeen.

The Zooplankton Sampler collects and preserves up to 50 in-situ zooplankton samples without damage to the organisms. Specimens are rolled onto a mesh collection belt and preserved in fixative solution. After recovery, the zooplankton can be examined on the collection mesh or transferred to a laboratory. Adjustable fluid volume and flow rate support diverse scientific needs. A hemispherical dome provides uniform flow path around the intake. Each sampling cycle is automatically positioned to a new polyester mesh frame. A non-volatile memory stores critical deployment data.
