ADCP Product Unveiling at OB

Teledyne RD Instruments is to unveil its new next-generation line of Acoustic Doppler Current Profiling (ADCP) products at Ocean Business 2011. After fifteen years of success, the Workhorse ADCP products will be complimented by the Sentinel V ADCP, the first in a series of V ADCP products based on a new technology platform. 10,000th Workhorse ADCP Delivered

Teledyne RD Instruments has recently reached two milestones. First, in 2007, the company celebrated its 25th year of business. Then, in January 2008, Teledyne RDI celebrated another significant milestone when Workhorse ADCP number 10,000 rolled off the company's assembly line. Sedimentation Estimation from ADCP Measurements

Monitoring sediment transport in a small harbour
Many harbours in tide-dominated areas silt up as a consequence of asymmetric tides. To understand the process of harbour sedimentation at tidal rivers, it is important to know the amount of transport of suspended sediment. In a small and shallow harbour along a tidal river, simultaneous ADC, OBS, CTD and water sample measurements are done for observations of suspended sediment transport. ADCP backscatter is converted to suspended sediment concentration by means of calibration with OBS, CTD and water sample data. ADCP Used in Berth Management Systems

One of Strainstall UK Limited's primary marine safety systems is their Berth Management System, which is used chiefly for the docking of VLCCs (oil tankers) and LNG (liquid natural gas) carriers. Triaxys Wave Buoy and RD Instruments ADCP

Comparison of Directional Wave Parameters
Since July 2004 the author has been routinely measuring waves 10km offshore Savannah, Georgia, at a site with mean water depth of 13m, using a Triaxys wave buoy (see wavebuoy.gtsav.gatech.edu). This report summarises a comparison of directional wave parameters from the buoy and 1,200kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) equipped with pressure transducer and waves firmware. Order for Three RiverRay ADCP Systems

Aqua Vision, the Netherlands, will supply the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment of the Netherlands with three RiverRay ADCP systems. The order includes support and maintenance by Aqua Vision BV for a period of five years. The Ministry will deploy RiverRay ADCPs for current direction, velocity and discharge measurements in rivers. The RiverRay system will be delivered with Aqua Vision’s ViSea Data Acquisition Software. ViSea DAS allows users to acquire data from multiple sensors and apply post-acquisition corrections to ADCP data. ADCP Buoy and Float Manufacturing Relaunched

DeepWater Buoyancy, USA, has relaunched the oceanography/marine measurements line of syntactic foam ADCP buoys, StableMoor floats and trawl resistant bottom mounts (TRBMs) formerly manufactured by Flotation Technologies (Flotec). When Flotation Technologies’ parent company chose to discontinue the manufacture of this line of oceanographic flotation, DeepWater Buoyancy stepped in to take it over, continuing to supply flotation products to the oceanographic community. Improving the Accuracy of ADCP Discharge ­Measurements

Automating Edge Discharge Calculation in ADCP Software
There is a key new feature in the discharge measurement software ViSea DAS that allows the user to add a bottom profile. By doing so, side extrapolation from the start and end points of the survey track to the shore is calculated automatically using dGPS positioning. This removes the error inherent in estimating the track to shore distance for each individual track, which is the current method used in comparable software packages. Measuring Sediment Fluxes with H-ADCP

During floods that occurred in September 2013 in Germany, Dutch company Aqua Vision carried out stream flow and sediment flux measurements on the River Elbe. The campaign was carried out in close cooperation with the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and represents one part of a larger research project. The primary goal was to develop a permanent sediment flux monitoring station using horizontal ADCPs (H-ADCP). Several further campaigns are planned in the coming months to monitor different flow conditions.
