Hydrographic Engineering Conference in Portugal

From 20th to 22nd of June 2012, the week which includes World Hydrography Day, a Hydrographic Engineering Conference is to take place in Lisbon, Portugal. This conference is intended to provide an open space for the scietific and technical community involved in hydrography and those who interact closely with hydrography, in particular related to navigation, geology, marine data management and marine chemistry.   Abstracts can be submitted until 2nd March 2012 to jornadas2012@hidrografico.pt. Dwight Coleman

Dwight F. Coleman, marine research scientist and the director of the Inner Space Center at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography in Narragansett, RI, is a geological oceanographer who focuses on ocean exploration expeditions, underwater archaeological studies and educational outreach. He has participated in or led about 30 oceanographic research cruises. Pioneers of Modern Ocean Science Meet to Launch Book

On Thursday 8th July 2010, almost one hundred ocean scientists who once worked at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) near Godalming, UK, are to meet at Southampton's National Oceanography Centre to launch of a book "Of Seas and Ships and Scientists". The book describes the origins of NIO in the inter-war years and during World War II, and its development under the charismatic leadership of the late Sir George Deacon.
