GSE Rentals Takes Delivery of the First Marinus

GSE Rentals Ltd of Aberdeen has become the first company in the world to acquire the new MARINUS attitude heading and reference system from VT TSS Ltd. The unit has been developed to provide exceptional accuracy in extreme sea conditions and will enable multibeam sonar users to extend their working season and continue surveying in conditions that would otherwise bring surveying to a halt. The MARINUS was delivered to the company’s Aberdeen headquarters and is now available for rental by GSE customers who will enjoy the benefits of working with a unit at the top of the VT TSS motion... 4D Surveying Above and Below Water

The Miami Port and Terminal Technology USA 2012 4th international conference and exhibition saw the launch of the industry's first custom-designed 4D (x,y,z + time) land and marine survey vessel. Following the success of its Dynascan mobile mapping system (the world's first truly portable Lidar system) and the increasing market demand for a combined multi-beam sonar and Lidar data collection system, Measurement Devices has introduced the industry's first custom-designed and built 4D data collection hydrographic survey vessel, the DYNASCAN-1. The DYNASCAN-1 is a trailerable 30 foot LOA ‘V' bottom aluminium work boat, which has been designed and built for shallow... (read more)

Imagenex Adds Sonar and Sensor Interface Relay

Imagenex has released the Model 878 high-resolution sidescan sonar which runs two sonars simultaneously on each side at different sound wavelengths for enhanced image clarity. The new DT100 Sensor Interface Relay (SIR) provides a central connection point for bathymetric sensors including sonar (1 or 2 units), GPS, MRU, gyro/heading, and sound velocity. The DT100 multibeam echo sounder has been revised. The sidescan sonar Model 878 'RGB' (triple simultaneous frequencies) has undergone a facelift and become more affordable. Both models are equipped with an optional echo sounder and a built-in orientation module as well as depth and temperature sensors. Powered by... (read more)

SBG Releases Navsight Marine Solution

At this year’s Oceanology International in London, UK, SBG Systems released the Navsight Marine Solution, a full high-performance inertial navigation solution designed to make surveyors’ tasks easier in both shallow and deep water. Navsight Marine Solution integrates the latest generation of gyroscopes, accelerometers and GNSS receivers. Navsight provides high-performance motion and navigation data as well as a real-time heave accurate to 5cm. To allow surveying when wave frequencies are large or complex, the solution comes with a delayed heave feature. If higher performance is required, the surveyor can count on Qinertia, SBG’s INS/GNSS post-processing software. New calibration procedure for easy installation... (read more)

POS MV Elite Brings Precision for Marine Surveying

Applanix has introduced its high-performance motion reference system for maritime surveying and mapping: the POS MV Elite. The POS MV Elite is a tightly coupled Inertial/GPS system that employs high precision ring laser gyros. The system includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU) originally designed for the aerospace industry, now available for marine hydrographic service. POS MV Elite produces approximately two times better roll and pitch measurement accuracies than the current industry standard POS MV 320. The system offers true heading accuracy without the need for dual GPS installation. The POS MV Elite also utilises the same proven computer and GPS... (read more)
