Hydrographic Society Benelux

On Friday 14 June, in the presence of a large audience, Thales Navigation BV organised a corporate workshop ‘New GPS equipment’ under the auspices of the Hydrographic Society Benelux (HSB) in the Rotterdam Airport Hotel.

After a short welcome by HSB board member Arnoud Vernimmen, Gerrit van der Vliet, GM of Thales Navigation BV, was introduced and handed over
the chairman’s seat for the afternoon. After a brief introduction about the history of Thales Navigation, François Erceau (Thales’s European Sales and Marketing Director Professional Products) gave some detailed information on the new Ashtech Aquarius and Sagitta equipment.

After the break François Erceau illuminated the development and involvement of Thales with the future developments of Galileo, the European counterpart to GPS. Ronald Perluka (project Manager with the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Survey Department) explained his report and conclusions about the comparison between LRK and RTCM signals using Thales Navigation equipment.

The last presentation was about a ‘dry’ application. Bas Verbeek (GNSS support Engineer from Thales Navigation BV) explained something about the GPS techniques used during survey works on the Betuwe Route 3 (a new railway connection from the west to east Netherlands) practice. He sure did get most of the questions from the audience.

After all questions had been answered the audience enjoyed drinks and snacks and had enough time to do their networking. A good way to start the weekend. The HSB wishes to thank Thales Navigation for their efforts in organising an interesting workshop.
