Chesapeake Introduces SonarWiz.MAP

Chesapeake Technology, Inc. recently released SonarWiz. MAP, their latest in sonar acquisition and real-time mapping technology. Built on top of the mature and stable acquisition software SonarWiz.SSS, SonarWiz.MAP integrates real-time mapping, survey planning, and survey line following in one easy to use and affordable package. SonarWiz.MAP virtually eliminates the post-processing time spent working up sidescan data. SonarWiz.MAP supports over 1,000 co-ordinate systems and is also loaded with interactive tools for adjusting acoustic data during and after data collection. Expanded C-Product Range

C-Products reports successful C-Boom LVB sales this year to a number of world-wide geological institutes, including the USGS in Florida, KIGAM in Korea and, most recently, the Hungarian Geological Survey. In the lead up to Oceanology in March 2004, C-Products will be focusing on further promoting the extensive C-View software range, which includes seismic acquisition, data processing and now hydro- graphic elements. Transas VTS in Taiwan

The long construction works contributing to the port of Ho-Ping (Taiwan) development have been concluded with the launch of a Transas VTS system there, a project implemented by Transas Marine Pacific, in co-operation with its Taiwanese agent, Seven Seas Electronic. The new VTS system in Ho-Ping gives significant advantages to the industrial port, making it compliant with VTS IMO/IALA regulations, improving the port management system and essentially increasing navigational safety in the area. ATLAS for Columbian Navy

ATLAS Hydrographic, in association with Ferrostaal de Colombia, has been contracted by the Colombian Navy's Hydrographic Service to supply ATLAS HYDROSWEEP MD-2 30kHz 5000m and ATLAS FANSWEEP20 200kHz shallow water multi-beam echosounder systems. The systems will be commissioned and installed on two hydrographic survey vessels operating from Cartagena and used for national survey operations. Each system is being supplied together with TSS motion sensor, Valeport sound velocity profiler and Trimble DGPS facilities. Support software comprises Coastal Oceanographics' HYPACK MAX and HYSWEEP modules for acquisition and storage of all data, in addition to CARIS HIPS and SIPS for post-processing operations. ALISTAR Unveiled

ECA has unveiled its 3,000 metres-depth-rated inspection vehicle ALISTAR. Video, sonar and hovering capacities, already developed for the demonstrator Alistar 300, have been integrated to give the vehicle deep inspection capabilities. The spread of ALISTAR 3000 does not need an umbilical and its winch. Applications such as pipeline inspection, riser/mooring lines and touchdown monitoring are targeted. The vehicle is able to record video and sonar data while tracking the equipment to be inspected and at the same time recording this information for post-processing data analysis. (read more)

New SEA Swathplus Range

The Marine Division of the British-based SEA Group has a new range of wide-swath, shallow-water sonar: the SWATHplus. SEA acquired the rights to what was the Submetrix system in May 2001. Since then the company has invested in re-analysing the technology, applying its expertise in signal processing and compact electronics design to produce the new range. Expertise in software development has been used to complement the advanced SWATHplus hardware with similarly advanced control and display programmes. First Bluetooth Echosounder

USGS Upgrades to SWATHplus

The US Geological Survey Center for Coastal and Marine Geology, located at Woods Hole, Massachusetts has recently taken delivery of a SEA SWATHplus, upgrade to the Submetrix 2000 system purchased in 2000. The centre will be using the SWATHplus for near-shore mapping and identification of seabed geo-morphology. Echosounders for US Navy

Knudsen Engineering Ltd has received a volume order from the US Naval Oceanographic Office at the Stennis Space Centre (Mississippi) for eight 320BR deepwater echosounders, plus spares kits. These instruments are two-channel (3.5/12kHz), rack-mounted, high-power systems used for full-ocean depth survey. Using a Windows interface data display, the system incorporate chirp and correlation processing to achieve low noise and high-resolution sub-bottom profiles. (read more)
