Stanley Harvey Appointed as US Navy Deputy Hydrographer

Stanley B. Harvey has assumed responsibilities as the deputy Hydrographer of the Navy on the Commander Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) staff. Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, the command’s leader, is designated as Hydrographer of the Navy.

Harvey, the command’s former assistant chief of staff for strategic plans and policy, has an extensive background in hydrographic survey programmes, ocean policy and international partnerships and agreements. In his new position he will represent the U.S. Navy’s hydrographic interests by promoting international partnerships and conducting liaison with the International Hydrographic Board and directors of numerous hydrographic offices.

A native of Port Gibson, Harvey is a graduate of Alcorn State University in Lorman, with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology. He also earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the College of Naval Warfare, U.S. Naval War College in Newport.

CNMOC directs and oversees the collection, processing and exploitation of accurate, relevant and timely oceanographic, meteorological, hydrographic, precise time and astrometric information. CNMOC is assigned as CTG 80.7 under U.S. Fleet Forces Command and is part of the information warfare community.
