Nautronix Delivers First Systems of USD10m Order

Nautronix has successfully delivered the first two NASDrill RS925 and NASeBOP (Emergency BOP Acoustic Control) systems from its current order of four systems for two of Rowan’s new ultra-deepwater drillships, the Rowan Relentless and the Rowan Reliance. The total contract value is worth approximately USD10 million. Nautronix’s NASDrill RS925 system has been designed specifically to meet the requirements for a reliable, stable DP and position reference system for demanding offshore operations, in particular deepwater drilling vessels. NASDrill RS925 combines the two most accurate deepwater acoustic positioning technologies – Short Baseline (SBL) and Long Baseline (LBL), to calculate multiple independent position... (read more)

Hydrographic Society Benelux

About 45 members of the Hydrographic Society Benelux attended the Hydrography in the Offshore workshop, which was held on Wednesday 18 September 2013 at the headquarters of Fugro in Leidschendam, the Netherlands. The workshop focused on two areas: survey for renewables and LBL positioning. Regarding renewables, Fugro presented the Inclinocam, which ensures that the monopiles of a windmill are placed upright at its place. It facilitates the checking of the position of the shaft without the need for physical contact, thereby increasing safety and making it unnecessary to interrupt the process. GeoPlus shared the experiences of the Karehamn offshore wind... (read more)

Sonardyne 6G and SPRINT Achieve Time Savings in Gulf of Mexico

Subsea engineering, construction and installation company, Subsea 7, has successfully used acoustic and inertial navigation technologies from Sonardyne International during a project to install flowlines, risers and subsea structures at a major new deep water field development in the Gulf of Mexico, due to commence production in 2016. To meet the positioning requirements of the project, Fred Goodloe III, project surveyor for Subsea 7 worked closely with Sonardyne’s in-house Survey Support Group (SSG) to determine the optimum configuration of subsea, ROV and vessel-based equipment. For a low-risk, multi-functional and cost-effective solution, a combined acoustic and aided-inertial navigation approach was adopted... (read more)

A New Solution for Subsea Metrology

Combination of Acoustics and Photogrammetry
Invariably, metrology is required at the critical stages of field development and the main goal for improvement is to reduce the time taken for acquiring data. The technique discussed offers significant improvements in terms of time and required equipment. Offshore Construction During offshore construction several structures have to be interconnected by means of spools or jumpers. In order to determine the dimensions and relative attitudes of the connections, surveyors deploy ROV-mounted instrumentation. IMCA S019 Guidance on Subsea Metrology offers the following combined accuracy guideline: 50mm to 150mm in X,Y and Z axis 0.5° to 1° for relative pitch, roll and heading.... (read more)
