While the realisation of European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODNET )- 1 is executed, the European Commission put out a second Hydrographic Lot. For this lot, Hydro Team member Atlis is selected to take care of the technical infrastructure. The second lot of EMODNET concerns an extension of the mapping coverage to the Adriatic, Iberian - French Atlantic coast and the Eastern part of the Mediterranean. (read more)

Crowdsourcing to Improve Bathymetric Data

TeamSurv is a project using crowdsourcing to improve bathymetric data in coastal waters. Participants log data from their vessel's instruments whilst going about their normal activities at sea, and then upload the data to the project web site for processing. The company have spent the first few months setting up the infrastructure and developing hardware and software loggers, and are now recruiting volunteers, as well as continuing software development for reduction of the soundings. The German specialist in hydro-acoustics has found a new home. The new building will give a perfect infrastructure for the growth of the company. The location of the facility is close to the mouth of the Kiel-Canal to the Kiel Fjord where a direct access to the water is available. The move will be completed to the mid of February 2007. Niels Kinneging

Niels Kinneging is geophysicist and senior consultant at Rijkswaterstaat. He works on various topics related to monitoring and data management with special interest in hydrography. He is project manager of the EU Jomopans project to build a monitoring infrastructure for underwater noise in the North Sea. He is member of the Educational Committee of the Hydrographic Society Benelux and the Scientific Committee for Hydro17.   (read more)

Deepwater Survey Contract

Fugro Singapore has been awarded a major offshore geotechnical investigation contract by Reliance Industries Ltd on the East Coast of India. Fugro will perform geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing and foundation design studies to allow detailed design of subsea infrastructure for the Dhirubhai Satellite Fields located in water depths of up to 1,850 metres. Fugro will be deploying one of its deepwater geotechnical vessels. The value of the contract is approximately USD8 million. (read more)

Geovation Water Challenge Launches

Ordnance Survey’s ninth Geovation® Challenge launched on 1 December 2015, and sees Britain’s mapping agency offering development funding and places on its Geovation programme for ideas that can improve the relationship with water. Individuals, start-ups and existing businesses and organisations are invited to submit their innovative ideas on how to improve the way we use and manage water by 27 January 2016. Teledyne Takes over CDL

The subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies (USA), Teledyne Limited, has taken over C.D. Limited (CDL). Headquartered in Aberdeen, UK, CDL is a supplier of subsea inertial navigation systems and motion sensors for a variety of marine applications. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. CDL designs and manufactures a variety of sensors including gyrocompasses, attitude and heading reference systems, and inertial navigation systems. Sonardyne Awarded Underwater Surveillance Contract

Sonardyne International has received a contract from Port Freeport in Texas, USA and its construction partner Cardinal Mechanical LP for the supply of a Sentinel Intruder Detection Sonar and a deployment system for a fixed, permanent installation within the port. The Sentinel Intruder Detection Sonar (IDS) system is able to protect vessels, ports and waterside installations from intrusion by divers, swimmers or surface vehicles.
