Autonomous Seabed Monitoring System Deployed

A long-life acoustic monitoring system developed by Sonardyne International Ltd, UK, to detect minute changes in the seafloor due to settlement has been successfully deployed in Southeast Asia for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP). Installed in 45 metres of water, the network of Autonomous Monitoring Transponders (AMTs) that make up the system were supplied with compact subsea instrument housings and anti-trawl seabed frames that have been custom-designed by Sonardyne to provide protection from commercial fishing activities in the area. Fourth VideoRay for US Coast Guard

The US Coast Guard has purchased VideoRay systems valued over US$ 231,000. These miniature swimming robots are currently used to investigate potential underwater dangers. The Coast Guard is testing VideoRay in the quick, efficient and economical inspection of ships, piers and harbours for condition and security. The purchase includes a VideoRay Pro II, four Desert Star Shiphull Inspection systems, peripheral equipment and training. New Address for CARIS in The Netherlands

After nearly two decades at its current office in Heeswijk, The Netherlands, CARIS' European office is moving to a new location. The new office will open on 20 April 2015, making 17 April the last day at the current office location. In addition to the move, the office, which is usually referred to as CARIS BV, will change its name to CARIS EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), reflecting the areas the office is servicing. Aviation Pinger Line Sold to RJE International

Teledyne Benthos, USA, has sold the Benthos aviation pinger product line, to RJE International, which includes the ELP-362D Underwater Locator Beacon. In this transaction, the Benthos intellectual property related to the manufacturing of underwater locator pingers for aviation black boxes and associated accessories has been sold to RJE, who will build and manufacture pingers for the aviation market. Benthos has manufactured FAA approved pingers since it acquired the technology in 1999. RJE has been an active master distributor of undersea location equipment since 1991. J2 Subsea Opens Subsea Tooling Facility in Houston

J2 Subsea has opened a new subsea tooling facility at sister Acteon company, Seatronics’, subsea electronics location in Houston. North American customers can now access a comprehensive suite of subsea equipment for diver and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) applications. The new facility includes a workshop for tool preparation, servicing and support. C&C Technologies Assists NOAA in Katrina Debris Mapping

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently has awarded C&C Technologies a contract to locate underwater hurricane debris along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. C&C is employing shallow water sonar equipment to provide precise locations of marine hazards and to aid in their subsequent recovery.
