Octopus Acquisition Systems Evolve

Utilising technology developed for the recently launched Octopus 760 geophysical acquisition system, two new instruments have just been introduced to the Octopus instruments range. The Octopus 360+ sub-bottom processor and the Octopus 460+ sonar acquisition system are the result of a radical overhaul of their popular predecessors, the Octopus 360 and Octopus 460. Developed using embedded Windows XP, each incorporates a 15” TFT screen with high resolution graphics, DVD RAM recorder and built-in UPS. The all-new compact, rugged and extremely easy to use package makes them ideal for all survey operations. With full format compatibility (XTF, Coda, SEGY), analogue input... (read more)

Veripos Upgrades Canadian DGPS Network

Veripos has upgraded its Canadian Differenctial GPS network providing Inmarsat-deliverd correction facilities with the establishment of new-generation L1/L2 dual frequency receiver hardware at reference stations in Halifax, Nova Scotia and St Johns, Newfoundland (Canada). The new facilities ensure improved positional accuracies and performance while also extending the validity of DGPS operations during periods of heightened ionospheric activity using the proprietary Veripos MCIF (Model Compensated Iono-Free) process. The process facilitates supplementary corrections for any ionospheric effects at both local and reference station points prior to output as standard RTCM Type 1 messages and subsequent injection into an L1 GPS receiver or... Triton Elics to Support Synthetic Aperture Sonar

Triton Elics International (TEI) announced that it has released a preliminary version of its software that is capable of reading and processing Synthetic Aperture Side Scan Sonar (SAS) data from the PROSAS system offered by Dynamics Technology, Inc. (DTI), from Arlington (VA, USA). DTI’s PROSAS system provides unparalleled, constant resolution across the entire sonar swath. Resolutions of 10cm at 300m are possible with this technology. TEI’s ISIS software is now capable of reading and displaying the high-resolution image data files created by the PROSAS system. Once in ISIS, the full suite of TEI data fusion and geoprocessing tools become available... (read more)

Cytobuoy Instruments for Water Quality Monitoring

Cytobuoy b.v. presents a range of advanced instruments for water quality monitoring based upon the principle of flow cytometry. The instruments can be used for fresh waters, marine waters and brackish (estuarine) waters. The main feature of the instruments is their ability to detect all sorts of particles with sizes between 1 micron and 1 mm: this includes sediments and plankton. The fluorescence of the particles allows identifying different species of plankton. Processing software presents the data and the results to the user, allowing for an automatic identification of plankton species. This is the main advantage of the instrument over... (read more)

New Wireless Bearing Health Monitor System

Kongsberg Maritime has released a new wireless monitoring system, the GB-100 Sentry system, designed for real-time monitoring of crosshead and crank pin bearing temperatures in rotary machinery applications such as reciprocating compressors and large diesel engines. In a reciprocating compressor or a large diesel engine, a serious malfunction caused by a bearing seizure can develop very quickly. In such a situation real time monitoring of bearing temperatures represents a valuable indicator, enabling timely action to protect vital machinery parts against high cost damages. The new Sentry system from Kongsberg Maritime represents a safety function that will reduce the risk of... (read more)
